I used to work for one of the big tutoring companies. That's how I know how broken they are. They reel you in with too-good-to-be-true guarantees, then wrap them in so much fine print that they're impossible to collect on. I would bite my tongue listening to the office upsell a vulnerable family trying to do right by their child into a huge package they didn't need at a cost they couldn't afford, then hand them years-old, out-of-date materials and a clunky web app that only worked half the time.
The SAT sucks. Studying for it doesn't have to.
Tutoring is $350 an hour. The app is $79 a month on its own, and for some kids that's all they need. It's free whenever your kid is tutoring with me.
Honestly? Probably a lot like your kid. I studied hard, was a good student... and bombed my first SAT. But after a small freak-out, I got back to it, scored a 1570, and wound up going to my dream Ivy. Your kid needs someone who knows how hard it can be, and who won't give up on them. As long as they still want it, I'm still there.
I was the first person to teach the digital SAT at my old company, and since then I've developed proven strategies and personally helped over a thousand students reach the score they wanted.
I promise: They can do it. Your kid can do it. They just need to be shown how.
Most SAT apps are essentially question banks without much guidance. That's fine for practice, but to raise their score, your kid needs a strategy. Here's what that looks like.
Unless your kid knows why they got one wrong, there’s no way to get the next one right. So when they slip, the app doesn’t just show the answer: it shows the mistake. That’s how the next one finally sticks.
According to the text, what has happened to the Salvator Mundi since its 2017 sale?
Only half of teaching is teaching. The other half is personal: reading a kid's face, knowing when to stay quiet and when to push, believing in them out loud. No app can do that, and honestly it's the best part of the job.
So whether your kid works with me one-on-one or just uses the app, you get the same promise: I answer texts, emails, and phone calls within a few hours, unless I'm in a lesson, because the student in front of me always comes first. You'll always be able to reach me.
“Jake is hands down the best tutor I have had the pleasure of having. From our very first session, he showed both a mastery of the material and how to convey it to someone who had only a basic understanding ...
He somehow managed to make our two-hour SAT sessions not only rigorous and informative, but also genuinely enjoyable.
What is special about Jake is not only his ability in instruction, but also in uplifting others. His positive reinforcement and genuine desire to make me feel more self-assured were so valuable to me. I recommend Jake to anyone looking for an SAT tutor.”
“As someone who has been through my fair share of SAT tutors, I hope it holds some weight when I say that Jake is by far the best tutor I've had. Starting with my goals in mind, he helped me build a test-day plan and held me accountable, in the best way possible, for the work I needed to put in to reach them.
As a busy high school junior traveling around the world for different summer programs, I sometimes felt overwhelmed ... Jake, however, was incredibly understanding and flexible, which helped me make it through a crazy summer and finish with a new personal best on the SAT! ...
He is intense without being overbearing, funny, and also his students' biggest fan. Trust me when I say this: your time, money, and effort will not be wasted!”
“You didn't simply tell me how to do each question ... you put it in words that I would understand. I never felt bored during our classes, and your attitude towards tutoring made me eager to learn.”
“Jake has helped me improve in ways no one else could, and made me reach highs I never thought was capable of. I started off at a 1200 and finished with a 1480, having Jake help me was the best decision I could've made.”
“My experience with Jake was exceptional, he is extremely talented and knowledgeable on matters of the SAT ... unlike any other teacher or tutor that I've had.”
“Jake helped me in every way, he taught me principles of the test, directed me to platforms to study topics I had forgotten, and explained the more difficult concepts in a very understandable way ... I'd recommend him to any student.”
Tell me about your kid. We'll figure out what they need and make a plan together. And if you just have a question about the SAT, reach out anyway. I'm happy to talk.
